M.Marcus Architectural Hardware Door Handles on Rose
Shop M. Marcus Architectural Hardware door handles on rose in matt-black iron, rustic dark bronze and rustic pewter finishes. Supplied as pairs, these lever handles combine characterful materials with compact square roses for a cleaner alternative to traditional full-length backplates.
The collection includes Claverley, Donnington, Hanwood and Gio designs, ranging from simple straight levers to more sculpted profiles. Separate matching turns and escutcheons allow the handles to be configured for latch, bathroom, traditional key-lock or Euro-cylinder doors.
Lever Door Handles on Square Rose
A handle on rose is mounted on a compact plate positioned directly behind the lever. The current M. Marcus Architectural Hardware range uses square roses, creating a defined geometric detail without the visual weight of a full backplate.
Because any locking or privacy furniture is fitted separately, the same lever design can be used across different internal-door functions. This provides greater flexibility and keeps unused doors free from unnecessary keyholes or turns.
Choose Hardware for Each Door Function
Standard Latch Doors
For an internal door that does not need to lock, pair the handles with a compatible tubular latch. The lever spindle passes through the latch follower, allowing either handle to retract the latchbolt. Latches are normally purchased separately unless a complete door pack is offered.
Bathroom and Privacy Doors
Bathroom doors require a compatible bathroom lock plus a separate turn and emergency release. The lever operates the latchbolt, while the turn operates the privacy deadbolt. Choose a round or square turn that coordinates with the handle rose, material and finish.
Traditional Key-Locking Doors
For conventional keyed locking, use a compatible sashlock with separate key escutcheons. The lever controls the latchbolt and the key controls the deadbolt. Measure the lock backset and position the escutcheon accurately beneath the handle.
Euro-Profile Locking Doors
A Euro-cylinder installation requires a Euro-profile sashlock, correctly sized cylinder and matching Euro escutcheons. Include the thickness of the door and both escutcheons when choosing the cylinder length so the cylinder does not project excessively.
Matt-Black Iron Door Handles
The black iron handles are produced using traditional sand-casting methods, giving the material a characterful appearance that suits industrial, country and heritage-inspired interiors. Their compact square roses introduce a more contemporary outline than conventional black iron lever handles on long backplates.
Claverley offers a substantial straight lever, while Hanwood provides a shorter, understated profile. Donnington introduces a curved form. Check the individual dimensions, as lever length, overall projection and hand clearance vary between designs.
Rustic Dark Bronze and Rustic Pewter
Selected designs are also available in Rustic Dark Bronze and Rustic Pewter. These intentionally aged finishes add depth and texture while the square rose keeps the overall design clean enough for both traditional and transitional interiors.
Finish availability varies by design. Check the manufacturer's care instructions and external-use guidance before fitting the handles in exposed, damp or coastal environments.
Selecting the Correct Latch or Lock
The backset is measured from the edge of the door to the centre of the lever spindle. Common 2½-inch latches and locks generally provide a 44mm backset, while common 3-inch versions generally provide a 57mm backset, although the dimensions of the selected mechanism must always be confirmed.
Also check the rose dimensions, lever projection, spindle size, door thickness and clearance from the frame, glazing or decorative mouldings. Handles are typically supplied as a pair with a spindle and fixings, but the latch, lock and separate accessories may need to be ordered independently.
