📘 FAQs – Lock Cylinders

❓ What is a door lock cylinder?

A cylinder is the part of a lock where you insert the key. It controls the locking mechanism inside the door and is typically the easiest part to upgrade.

❓ What’s the difference between Euro, Oval, and Rim cylinders?

  • Euro profile: most common; used in multipoint and mortice locks

  • Oval profile: similar to Euro but with an oval shape

  • Rim cylinders: used in night latches (e.g., Yale-style front door locks)

What is a thumbturn cylinder?

A thumbturn cylinder allows you to lock/unlock the door from the inside without a key, using a built-in turn knob—great for quick exits and convenience.

❓ How do I measure a cylinder?

Measure from the screw hole (centre) to each end of the barrel:

  • For example, 35/35mm = 70mm overall

  • Offset sizes (e.g., 40/50mm) are also available

❓ What are anti-snap cylinders?

Anti-snap cylinders are designed to resist common burglary methods. Some have sacrificial sections that break away without compromising the core.

❓ Are these cylinders keyed alike?

Most are supplied keyed to differ (each with unique keys), but we offer keyed alike options if you want multiple doors to share the same key.

❓ Do I need a locksmith to replace a cylinder?

No – most cylinders are DIY-friendly. You’ll just need a screwdriver and a tape measure. Full instructions are provided.

❓ What’s included with a cylinder?

  • Lock cylinder

  • At least 3 keys

  • Fixing screw

  • Optional security card (for restricted key duplication)
